Dr. Suzanne Stluka, Deputy Director of NIFA's Institute of Food Safety and Nutrition, will kick off this webinar highlighting the connection of food loss and waste to tackling food and nutrition insecurity and explain NIFA’s contributions to USDA’s overall efforts. She will than pass it off to Dr. Jean Buzby, USDA’s Food Loss and Waste Liaison, who will explain the department's work in this area and share her vision for further integrating approaches to food loss and waste across USDA. Then, Drs. Charlotte Tuttle, Lydia Kaume and Vijay Nandula, NIFA National Program Leaders, will provide overviews of their relevant programs, awardees and accomplishments to date. Dr. Brenna Ellison, Purdue University, will provide an overview on the new AFRI-funded Center for Food Conservation and Waste Reduction. Dr. Brian Roe, the Ohio State University, will provide an overview on the AFRI-funded Food Loss and Waste Consumer Education Campaign Pilot. Dr. Stluka will conclude the webinar by moderating a discussion across the panelists with the help of the NIFA Food Loss and Waste Team members Taylor Reed and Sarah Bellaire helping moderate questions from the audience.
